What is your idea of your ‘dream skin’? For most of us, it would be healthy skin, nourished and youthful, naturally and without makeup. Well, this is the perfect description of glowing skin!
Glowing skin is skin that is smooth and even and reflects light, hence the glow. We’re sure we all have at least one person in our contacts who looks dewy and fresh all day, every day, without having to resort to highlighters and other makeup. Maybe that person is born with it, or maybe has a good skincare regimen!
Once you’ve narrowed down your skin type, choose products suited for this type. Avoid products with harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Not only will these prevent you from reaching your dream of glowing skin, but they can also harm your overall health.
Once you’ve got your products, be sure to apply them in the right order. The general rule of thumb is to go from the lightest formulations to the heaviest. So, serums come first, and thick creams come later. For more information on the exact regimen for glowing skin, check out the complete guide below.
Here is a quick guide for your AM and PM routine!
Morning Routine for Glowing Skin (AM Routine)
1. Cleanser
The first thing you need in any skincare regimen is a clean, blank canvas. Choose a mild cleanser that’ll get rid of all the excess oil accumulated on your skin through the night. Avoid harsh cleansers that’ll dry out your skin and keep you from that glow. Opt for cream cleansers with hydrating and soothing ingredients like aloe vera.
2. Toner
Once your face is cleansed, pat dry with a face towel. Cleansing may disrupt the pH of your skin, which is where a toner can help. Toners don’t just balance your skin’s pH, they also help minimize pores and make the skin more receptive to the products that come after this. Look for toners with ingredients like cucumber, aloe vera, glycerin for dry skin, and witch hazel or salicylic acid for oily skin.
3. Serum
When it comes to glowing skin, serums are your best friend! A serum is a concentrated solution of active ingredients that are absorbed more readily, are more effective, and target specific skin issues. A serum can fix it for you, whether it’s acne, hyperpigmentation, extreme dryness, or fine lines. Vitamin C serums are great for your morning skincare routine as the antioxidant can help protect against free radical damage throughout the day.
4. Moisturizer
Once your serum is fully absorbed into the skin, it’s time for moisturizer. You may think the serum offers enough hydration, but a moisturizer can act as a good skin barrier to lock in the hydration and prevent any water loss if you want glowing skin. According to the season, choose a moisturizer going for thicker ones in winter and lighter formulations in summer.
5. Sunscreen
No matter what you do, do not skip this step! One of the biggest reasons for dull, damaged skin is sun damage, and without sunscreen, you’ll never get the glowing skin you desire. UV rays are extremely damaging and can cause hyperpigmentation, uneven skin, and premature aging. Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days and even if you’re indoors.
6. Face Mist
This is that perfect finishing touch for lovely, glowing skin. You can easily make your face mist by diluting rose water and adding a few drops of essential oil. Pour into a spray bottle and carry it around with you to spritz on for instant glow. This is especially important to refresh and rejuvenate your skin during the summer months.
Evening Routine for Glowing Skin (PM Routine)
1. Cleanser
It is recommended to cleanse your skin twice a day – morning and night – and not more than that. However, your nighttime cleansing will look a little different from the morning version. If you wear makeup, you’ll need to use an oil-based cleanser or makeup remover to get rid of every last trace of makeup on your face. Then, you can follow up with a water-based cleanser to wash off any leftover dirt, impurities, and excess oil. Our Micellar water is an excellent option to wipe off those traces of dirt and grime.
2. Night Cream
Once the essence of your sheet mask is fully absorbed into your skin, lock in the moisture and nutrients with a night cream. Night creams are generally a little heavier than day creams.
3. Eye Cream
Your dream of glowing skin is incomplete when your eyes have dark circles and bags under them. Fix this with an under eye cream for dark circles treatment at night. This can be in the form of a cream or gel, with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E, or soothing ingredients like chamomile, cucumber, or aloe vera. You can also apply cold compresses under the eyes to get rid of puffiness and dark circles.
Following this regimen for glowing skin continuously can surely show results over a while. You need loads of patience and a patch test to ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the products.
